A Word About Epoxy Resin And Fibreglass Cloth... |

Epoxy resin is the strongest glue made. Moreover, it is 100% waterproof, unlike regular fibreglass resin (which gradually absorbs water). Also, regular fibreglass resin does a poor job of bonding fibreglass cloth to wood. It soon peels off. Epoxy resin, on the other hand, will never let go. The wood will break before the cloth loses its grip. The working life of an epoxy-composite product, such as our boats, is at least 100 years. Such assets hold their value. Modern epoxy resins are used more and more in the fabrication of aircraft (military and passenger jets), high-tech cars and boats, bridges and other high-strength applications. We only use heavy, bi-axial, non-woven fibreglass cloth especially formulated for use with epoxy resins. This adds a great deal of strength and stiffness to our products. Regular fibreglass cloth adds no extra tensile strength to the underlying structure. Our epoxy composite surfaces are much tougher, less brittle and far more impact resistant than regular fibreglass. Nevertheless, even our epoxy/fibreglass boats are not tough enough to withstand the rough treatment aquaculture boats are subject to. For this reason, all our boats are heavily armoured on the sides and at all corners with UV-proof plastic planking up to 1.5" thick. Check out www.plasticlumber.ca. All armour (plastic, stainless steel, aluminum etc) is attached with #316 SS bolts set in 3M5200 marine sealant for a lifetime of trouble-free protection. Full-length plastic runners on the bottom are standard,(3.5" x 3.5" or 5.5" x 5.5"). We can supply extra protection to shellfish barges etc by bonding #5052 H32 marine aluminum to the fibreglass deck. Of course, all our decks have ample strength with or without aluminum armour. Even our Tryon 18 fast workboat has a workdeck 1.5" thick. Our large vessels are designed to DNV and Transport Canada standards and subject to DOT inspection while under construction. We can easily design to USCG and ABS standards. NOTE: All Prices Are In CDN Funds and F.O.B. St. Stephen, NB CANADA.
