TRYON 42W

42’ x 21’ W.E.S.T System Catamaran

HULL CONFIGURATION
Double-chine hulls with bridgedeck cabin.

STEERING SYSTEM
Hydraulic ram operating internally-linked rudders (Core-Cell and SS) protected by an extremely strong #316 SS and HDPE skeg.

SAIL PLAN
Large genoa with optional roller-reefing plus a fully-battened main of modest size with slab reefing. The main gooseneck is in the cockpit for safe reefing and furling. The optional storm jib can be stowed while hanked on for instant use while not having to leave the cockpit. All sheets and halyards lead to cockpit winches. Also available in Junk rig or Gaff rig formats.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Two staterooms aft with queen-size berths. One single berth fwd with optional head under. One bathroom with a Groco-brand toilet, sink and separate shower stall. The galley, opening onto the saloon, is in the port hull for safety at sea. A work/storage room is fwd in the stbd hull and contains optional underwater-viewing ports. The main saloon contains a table, with seating for 8 comfortably, plus a full-size nav-station and electrical centre.

HELM LOCATION
Cockpit only. The large, very deep cockpit has seating on an upper and lower level. This snug arrangement offers the most protection in its class The helm, on the upper level, is protected by a partial hardtop with Lexan windscreen. All-around visibility is excellent.

DECK LAYOUT
A trampoline fwd, generous side decks with high stanchions and a large, very sheltered cockpit aft offer safety and comfort in harsh conditions. The oversize Andersen genoa winches are accessible from the cockpit and can be utilized for anchor handling. A full-width mainsail track is aft. Centreboard control lines lead to cockpit winches aft.

AUXILIARY ENGINES
Two Yamaha 9.9 High-Thrust,4-stroke O/B engines with electric start and 25” shafts are located under the cockpit seats in streamlined pods, mounted on aluminum lifting motor brackets. Four 54-litre fuel tanks and two batteries are also located there. One deep-cycle battery is located below.

DESCRIPTION
The TRYON 42W is a user-friendly, ocean-going greyhound (the hull L/B ratio is 15:1). Our first model of this boat, a PDQ 38 (as pictured at the bottom of page) designed by Alan Slater for W.E.S.T. System, sailed to the Caribbean in 1986 and is still there. It passed survey 4 years ago with flying colours. Wood-epoxy produces light, strong, maintenance-free boats that are seaworthy and sail fast. In the secure galley, a Force 10 countertop propane stove with radiant broiler, deep sinks, a 2.4 cu ft refrigerator (12V/115V) and 8 sq ft of open counter top make life better for the cook. Sixteen opening ports with screens, plus four hatches, plus four 12V vents, combined with a flow-through ventilation system unique to the TRYON 42W, and no giant windows to absorb heat, keep the boat cool and private.

A vented, SS, propane heater by Force 10 produces dry heat that is actively circulated throughout the vessel. When it comes to ocean sailing, all systems fail. To increase reliability our plumbing is done with expensive "Groco" marine toilets, expensive Fynnspray solid brass hand pumps in the galley and bathroom, and no hot/cold running water systems (optional). A solar-heated shower in our deluxe stall is a carefree and cleansing experience. Lighting is mostly LED, fluorescent and halogen. Running into floating debris is less painful with our stub keels and lifting centreboards. Ditto for our well-protected rudders. Bottoms protected with optional HDPE plastic further ease the pain.

We’re not selling a dream...just reality:        $261,450 CDN FOB factory
